How to Clean Gold Jewelry
3 Methods that work
Although gold doesn't tarnish, it can easily get dirty. To clean your precious rings, bracelets, necklaces and other gold jewelry, just follow the steps below.
Dish Soap Method
1 Put a few drops of liquid dish detergent in a bowl of warm water. Mix gently. For even better results, you can use sodium-free seltzer water or club soda...the carbonation loosens soil and removes debris.
2 Soak the gold jewelry in the solution for 15 minutes.
3 Scrub each piece of jewelry with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Stiff bristles can scratch the surface of your jewelry. Special brushes designed for this purpose are best, but an eyebrow brush will also work.
4 Rinse each piece in warm running water.
5 Blot dry with a soft cloth.
Use this method sparingly. Even though it's very effective, doing it too often can damage your gold. (Ammonia can also darken platinum.)
1 Mix one part ammonia to six parts water.
2 Soak the jewelry in the mixture for no more than one minute. Using a strainer can help with pulling it all out quickly at once.
3 Rinse the jewelry thoroughly under running water.
4 Dry the jewelry with a soft polishing cloth.
For Jewelry with Gemstones
Pieces of jewelry with gemstones that are glued into the setting should not be submerged in water.
1 Wipe the jewelry with a cloth that's been dabbed in dish soap solution, as instructed above.
2 "Rinse" the jewelry with a cloth dampened with plain water.
3 Lay the pieces upside down after cleaning so any remaining moisture won't soak into the setting.

Sterling Silver Charms
Jewelry representing interest and personality
Sterling silver jewelry charms are very popular as they are ancient Judaica. Ancients Egyptians wore bracelets with charms. They used them to protect against bad luck and evil forces. Jewelry charms began with holy symbols and became a part of daily dressing.
Jewelry signifies items of personal adornment, such as necklaces, rings, brooches, earrings and bracelets. Jewelry may be made from any material, such as gemstones, precious metals or shells, besides other materials, depending on cultural differences and availability of materials. Jewelry may be appreciated because of geometric or other patterns, or meaningful symbols. (Items such as belts and handbags etc. are considered to be accessories rather than jewelry.)
The word jewelry is derived from the word jewel, which was Anglicised from the Old French "jouel" circa the 13th century. Further tracing leads back to the Latin word "jocale", meaning plaything. Jewelry is one of the oldest forms of body adornment; recently found 100,000 year-old beads made from Nassarius shells, are thought to be the oldest known jewelry.
How to Calculate the Value of Scrap Gold
Formula and Explanation
If you have any scrap gold, you can sell it, but for how much? Gold prices tend to rise along with worries of war or inflation but before you bring gold jewelry, dental fillings, teeth, nuggets, and bars to a scrap gold dealer's counter (or send it off by mail) you should know exactly what it's worth. Most scrap gold dealers keep the calculation a secret. Here is their formula.

Stories from A-Z
Jewelry, Gold and Silver Jewelry
Nowadays many lists of webpages (including these pages on Avalon's Treasury) offer the possibility to not only provide a title and a short description for your site but to also publish a whole story that points to your website. You should use this opportunity since an informative story acquires much more new visitors for your internet pages than a simple entry in a list of websites.
Writing for the internet is a special challenge since most visitors of a webpage only skim through texts in order to find the information they were seeking as quickly as possible. It is therefore very important to structure your stories in a way that makes them easy to comprehend and quick to read. In this context it is helpful to start the text with a summary of its content and only then to explain more details step by step - this way the visitor of the webpage can decide after every paragraph if he already has learned enough or if he wants to read more information.
The different ideas of your story should be arranged as short paragraphs which should not be longer than 3-4 sentences. Certainly your text starts with a main heading that summarizes the content of the story, that is to the point and that is not longer than 10 words - but also subheadings should be used as additional structural elements. Furthermore important parts of the story should be written in bold or italics if they are citations. Since italic characters can be hard to read on screen alternatively citations can be highlighted using quotation marks or (as we will see later) they can be written in colour if they are especially important for your story. But please make sure that you don't overuse coloured or bold text since your story otherwise can become confusing.
All structural elements mentioned so far make it easier to quickly skim through a text and to find the information sought. For the same purpose also bulleted lists are ideal especially if you want to talk about different facts that you have to present in a structured manner. It is also true that numbered lists can enhance the overall clearness if you want to talk about a fixed number of ideas (e.g. The 10 best Methods to make your Website famous). Also images and references structure a story: Images can enhance the interest for a text further by using an informative caption and references can lead to the originator of a quotation - these citations are best marked by coloured text to make them stand out even more.
Also the stories on the page http://www.alte
r-jewelry.html were structured this way in order to allow a quick reading thereby helping the visitors of this page to easily find the information they are seeking. If you want to point to this page you can use the following information about our website and the page itself:
- Website: Our short description is "Online Shop for Jewelry and Books about Alternative Health and Crystal Healing".
- Page: Websites and stories about "Jewelry, Gold and Silver Jewelry" can be found on this page.
Stories are today very often used for pointing to one's own website since they entertain and inform the visitor of a webpage and this way bring more interested readers to the site. Make sure that your stories are structured in a way that allows the skimming of the text - by this you will gain more readers which in the long run leads to more visitors of your website.
