The structure of a website
How the structure of a website can be improved
Most lists of websites expect that you can specify the subject of your internet pages during the sign up for joining the list. Many website owners find this to be difficult because they have no clear idea about the contents of their site.
This lack of clarity often originates in the fact that the respective website contains stories and texts on various topics instead of concentrating upon a clearly defined subject. However, this lack of focus on a certain subject area leads to problems witch are often overlooked - e.g. it is considerably more difficult to address the visitors of such websites and to motivate them to regularly read newly published stories, because they are like the website itself focused on very different subjects.
It is often helpful if one thinks about his website like a book and treats the single internet pages like the chapters of this book. Do all chapters fit in the same book and is their arrangement meaningful to the reader? Of course it is not necessary for a good book or a good website to limit oneself to only one very specific subject - it is absolutely possible to select a broader topic if all published stories and texts fit to this subject.
Not only the well defined choice of a subject area but also the structure of a website are important so that the available contents can be presented in an easily findable and sorted way. Of course the most important contents should be presented most prominently and the single internet pages should not be filled with unsorted references and commercials
Furthermore the design of an easy to use menu structure is a particular challenge, because with large websites a lot of contents must be divided into meaningful groups and sub-groups. It is therefore important to always arrange a website from the perspective of its visitors - they must be able to find the contents they are interested in as quickly and trouble-free as possible.
Furthermore the elements of a website containing no text as for example images, graphics and photos are also structurally important. Here it is reasonable to only use really important elements, so that the clarity of the website is preserved.
Finally the structure of a website in form and content has to be maintained over the years to come - so that constantly new visitors are attracted and the old ones come again to read new stories...

Lists of Webpages, Categorized Lists
Nowadays it is often standard not only to add your website to a list of webpages using a short description but to write an informative story which points to your site. Also we offer you the possibility to tell your readers more about yourself thereby making a lasting impression which would be impossible by simply using a title and a short description alone.
Texts for the internet should be written differently than stories for a newspaper or a book: Since most of the visitors of an internet page only skim through the offered texts in order to find the information they seek as quickly as possible a solid structure of your story is crucial for its success. It is therefore best to already start your text with a summarizing overview and to only then present the detail information step by step - this way your readers will know from the beginning what the text will be about.
Use short paragraphs that structure your story in single ideas - a maximum of 3-4 sentences per paragraph is ideal. Besides the main heading of the story subheadings should be used so that visitors can find the part of the text they are interested in by skimming. The headings should not be longer than 10 words and summarize the following part of the story in an informative way. Also the usage of bold and italic words offers the possibility to highlight important passages of the text. But italic characters can be hard to read on screen - if they are used to mark citations quotation marks therefore can be used as an alternative for highlighting.
Lists with bullets are also ideal to structure ideas in a way that can be captured at a glance and that differs from the rest of the text - if you want to stress the amount of information in your story (e.g. 8 Methods for Writing better Stories) you can also use numbered lists. Furthermore images and references are elements that attract attention and thereby structure a story - if possible your images should have a highlighted caption that gets the attention of your readers. References can be combined with quotations and lead to the originator of the statement - if you highlight quotations using coloured text the structure of your story is enhanced further.
Also the stories on the page http://www.alte
tml were structured this way in order to allow a quick reading thereby helping the visitors of this page to easily find the information they are seeking. If you want to point to this page you can use the following information about our website and the page itself:
- Website: Our short description is "www.alternative-health-crystal-healing.com".
- Page: Stories and websites about "Lists of Webpages, Categorized Lists" can be found on this page.
Stories are today very often used for pointing to one's own website since they entertain and inform the visitor of a webpage and this way bring more interested readers to the site. Make sure that your stories are structured in a way that allows the skimming of the text - by this you will gain more readers which in the long run leads to more visitors of your website.
